02 November 2003: Everybody's Gonna Be Happy and/or High

Dear Dalton,

I really like the song "Everybody's Gonna Be Happy" by The Kinks. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that's going to be a potential theme song for your term in office over the next four years, what with the Conservative mess left to you.

It has been suggested by my British Columbian friend Mike that if we legalised pot and taxed it at the same rate that we tax cigarettes, we would have a much smaller cash-flow problem. The LCBO would probably be the most logical distribution centre, as it already deals out socially addictive substances that impair sobriety. The distribution age could be 19, since the effects on health and sobriety are similar to those of alcohol.

I should note here that neither of us smoke pot or drink, so this isn't really of any benefit to us except that this way Ontario would have more of an income and you might be able to work on that tuition freeze you mentioned.

I love you,

Heather Ann Kaldeway
