Causeless Cause: 17 October 2003

So here's the question: does God exist? And how do you know anything about God without having made it up or believed something someone else made up? I certainly don't know. Here's one step though:

1. Every effect has a cause.
2. Every moving thing is an effect.
3. We observe moving things.
4. These moving things have causes and those causes have causes.
5. We can't have an infinite regression of causes.
∴ There is a First Cause or Unmoved Mover.

I'm a fan of the first cause argument. Not so much of Descartes' "I think He is therefore He is" argument. Still haven't gotten that one for more than five seconds.

Beyond that, though... God is good? God is Calvinist? God is Jesus? God is YHWH? Can such things be known?

If not, perhaps they can be true but not known to be true. Then what? Then blind faith in the unknown but maybe true? Belief due to fear of potential hell?

It's too late for me to think on such things. Me: bad christian, thinks too much.

Flock: blind trust, easily manipulated. Great image, thanks for that.
