Church Jargon: 09 August 2001

M. from the Monday night prayer group came into the bookstore today. He asked me what God's been laying on my heart, and told me (or God or something), "I pray that you would step into all the fullness of God's plan for you" or something. Smile and nod. I said, "Thanks, have a good day!" (How much church jargon can you get into a five minute long conversation?) God doesn't 'lay things on my heart,' that's not how our relationship works. We hang out, he loves me, he makes me gentler, things are cool. But my life is not one of those that are made up of a series of missions or causes to pursue. Isn't the phrase "step into the fullness etc" the fancy version of "become super-Christian"? Well, I'd rather be human, thanks. I guess it surprises me, because I really liked M., and I found him so inaccessible today.
