Not Just a Hobby: 08 January 2004

RH didn't have a positive response. He told me that his faith isn't "just a hobby," he believes it's real. Well, so did I. "Have you really thought about this??" Well, no, this was a split decision. [/sarcasm]

Two things disturb me:
1. He doesn't see that I agonized about this, or that I was unable to stop it and am glad it has happened.
2. There's an 'us vs. them' mentality, and he already thinks of me as part of Them. So he'll still be my friend, but it won't be the same because I'm off the team. I suppose I felt the same way about J.

We're going for supper tomorrow night, I hope we don't fight.

Please understand that from my perspective you are choosing an eternity of separation from God, I can't even imagine the repercussions of your decision. For me my faith isn't some hobby, I believe this is real. And so I guess to some extent I want to do everything I can to get you to change your mind. But I promise on Wednesday I will try my hardest not to talk to you about it. But I'm a little curious as to why you would make this decision, when you say yourself you can't adequately defend it.
