<-- Faith Dissolved

Clichés: 03 July 2001

Sometimes, I get pissed off, or just somewhat annoyed, by people who use clichés a bit too much. Religious clichés, in particular.

"I just love to see how the Lord is using them."
"They're so touched."
"What would Jesus do?" (well, probably sell tons of merchandise based on a stupid saying! oh wait, you mean THAT jesus.)
"Well, it's all in God's hands" (so let's not do anything)

Blah, blah, blah. There is a difference between faith and blind faith. Love the Lord your God with all your MIND. Argh. I'm just sick of the jargon, all the cheesy crap that people seem to eat right up. How entertainment-based does church have to be? As Keith Green pointed out, people are always asking for fame, money and success, but God doesn't want to feed your flesh. God, does that make sense to ANYONE not raised in a North American Protestant church? No...

Basically, just stop being selfish, learn to let God into your life instead of trying to model yourself after Billy Graham et al. It's not that Billy's not great, it's that YOU are not him, and so your relationship with anyone will work differently, and your relationship with God should be different than his relationship with God, because you are not him.

I'm still trying to work this out in my head. Are there absolutes? Sure, but I'm not sure what they are anymore. God calls himself "I will be who I will be", or in laymans terms, "stay out of it, you're too little to understand". I think I'm going to choose to respect that.
