taking christ out of xmas
Citizens and Expatriates of Brock Vegas: I am coming home the night of the 21st, and will be there until the 26th or so. Chris will be coming home with me but will be returning to the T-dot on the morning of the 24th. IF YOU WANT TO PLAY, you can call us at my parents' residence in the metropolis of Mallorytown. We are already busy on the night of the 22nd, but are up for playing at other times. Dani, Chad, Trevor, Matt, Doug, Bubbles, (Nata? Connie?) I'm looking at you guys. If there is a shin-dig, particularly on the night of the 23rd, I want to know.
I know a few ex-Christians who find Christmas rather difficult. Personally, I don't really, but I do get asked about it by my Christian friends once in a while. One question this week was phrased this way: "By the way, are you going to celebrate Christmas now that you care less about the Christian stuff?" Well, I guess we have to define some terms here in order to answer that question.
Celebrating Christmas: This used to mean going to church, participating in Christmas Lane, seeing Pastor Lawrence leading hymns (complete with fist in time to the beat), and touring Brock Vegas looking for the most ridiculous over-use of Christmas lights, usually to be found on Laurier Blvd. This is different now. My parents don't go to Centennial Road
"now that you care less about the Christian stuff": As in, I'm not a Christian anymore and I think it's a myth? I don't think that I care less about it, I think about it a lot, I read about it a lot... I just don't believe it's True anymore. It's not that I care less about Christmas, I never really had a big attachment to it in the first place. Rah rah, baby Jesus, okay. Enough with the kids in shepherd costumes, why the hell do we bring a donkey into the church every freaking year? Christmas has been getting better in the last few years, as we get together with my mom's side of the family at a different house and don't fight anymore and there is Eric (the afore-mentioned cousin) and he is just a bundle of cuteness. For me, Christmas is time off plus family plus my dog plus clementines plus egg nog plus friends I don't see that often, and that's a good deal.

sad news, the most hiddeous of houses on laurier has decided NOT to string lights all over their roof, though i would suggest taking a look at the house on cenennial road just east of highway 29, it is the tackiest house i have come accross thus far this year..
Also points of interest - Christmas lane is now called the Christmas Star and is no longer a lane but a cheesy musical.. Pastor Lawrence has not lead one hymn to my knowlendge as Pastor Janyce and Pastor Jonathen have taken over in that respect.. we do miss the fist pump.. Also please note that i have not once heard go tell it on the mountain since Pastor Randy resigned.. no tears have been shed as of yet..
You do look excellent in a dress..
Holly
Hey, I'm coming home the 23rd, I suggest us brockvillians get together sometime that night. Maybe some no-money poker? (not because i'm against playing with money, but because I have no money). or a classic christmas cartoon fest, whatever. There are always some poelman boys to be found somewhere!
Oh, and since you put up a picture of you in a dress, I decided to return the gesture:

Doug, that's a lovely photo. Very saucy. ;) I propose that if no one else has yet planned anything, you should all come over to my place to play poker (or whatever, I don't know how to play poker, but it can be taught) or Dutch Blitz or something. I'll bring some peach wine, it's quite nice. What say you, (ex-)citizens of Brock Vegas? Thursday night, around 7 or 8?
Holly, how will xmas ever be the same without the extravagance of electricity-wastage on Laurier and the fist-pumping assisted hymnage? And who is this "Pastor Jonathan" you speak of? Tell me at least Mandy Newton is singing her "moving, moo-hoo-hoo-hoo-ooving" song!
I have another idea as well, your place is good, but perhaps we should make a visit to chad's new apartment? (of course I haven't asked him about this). I haven't been to the slums of brockville for some time, and miss the smell (maybe we'll get to see a drug bust!)
Yes, I just suspect that Chad probably won't have very much space/many dishes/much room to sit/etc. Maybe nicer for him if we don't completely trash his place. :)
Don't live anywhere near Brock Vegas, but I vote for Dutch Blitz. I love that game! It's amazing how vicious it gets! Bwuahahahah!
Happy Solstice and Merry Christmas,
Gina
PS: did you try the pie?
Though I would not be against people coming to my new apartment the previous tenant isn't moving out until dec 24 and I'm not sure yet exactly when I can move in other than Jan 1 at the least. I think we should play poker it doesn't matter than you can't play cause we really don't know it that well either (doug really sucks at it)
btw: I wasn't ignoring you on msn earlier. I was talking to doug and I didn't see you were on until after you were off.
WHOA CHAD! I 'suck' at poker? We weren't playing for money or candy (i highly suggest that we get sweddish berries, fuzzy peaches and gummy worms and play with those! as long as no one minds ppl touching thier candy). First of all, I don't see you on no steam boat in a poker competetion (that movie with the brave heart guy), 2nd of hall, I was a little rusty, and 3rd of all I owned the chips we were using, so technically I went home with all the cips, so I won.
plus I don't know how to play dutch blitz, and not really into all things ducth. I've never turned down a game of euchere... but absolutly no twister!!!! I'm just not as flexiable as I once.... ok I was never flexiable.
my spelling sucks
Euchre rocks, but I fear that I'm so out of practice I'd get my ass handed to me...

What made u decide not to be an evangelical Christian anymore? Do u still feel that way now that Xmas 2005 is just past? Just curious.
